Founder's Story
Coming from the rural area of Western Kenya, I had firsthand experience growing up in a big family. I have seen neighbors, friends, siblings and myself falling behind in school due to lack of resources, supplies, mentors, and support that promote growth in education.
Due to government limitations of resources and support, I struggled in school and my parents could not handle the expenses. This is an issue many children encounter in rural areas.
Fortunately, I managed to come to the United States and had all the resources, supplies, and support I needed to build my education. I was able to go back to school and receive my degree in Healthcare. I travel back and forth to Kenya and encounter the youth facing similar situations that I had and it’s heart breaking.
Here at STR Educational Development, I would like to make a difference in children’s lives and improve the educational foundation in the underserved community. With your help and support, together we can make a difference in young people's lives.
Why
Statistically many children in Kenya who attend school are most likely to drop out or be forced out due to poverty, financial instability, cultural belief and school system literacy. A small number of children make it through primary school and are unable to complete school to proceed to a higher education. Kenya’s school rigid system makes it very challenging for parents and children to excel in school.
Unfortunately, parents and children have to find their way through the education system with no guidance in the right direction. Leaving their lives with no structure and/or sense of direction in achieving their personal goals in education.
Some Parents are not making enough funds to afford school fees and resources. This can often lead to children being sent home, which interferes with the education process. It can be a challenging path to keep up with the school curriculums.
A majority of children do not have the right tools (such as support, resources and mentorship) that would provide a smooth transition in the right direction for better education. We believe the best gift you can give a child is knowledge. Having the right tools that provide education excellence, empower children to discover new skills and individuality. Incorporating a safe environment in their own community which will make a huge impact in these children’s lives. Education is knowledge and without knowledge you are like a lost soul without a brighter future.
